If you are a regular reader, you know that over the past so many years, I have fully embraced linen.
The Timelessness of Linen
Just as we have embraced or accepted wrinkles on our faces, I have done the same with linen fabrics. I say its the characteristic of the fabric. You just have to go with the flow! If not, I may just have to end up a sweaty mess in the summertime.
I have actually over the last 5 years or so, started to develop a linen and cotton summer wardrobe. It really is a must in the summer, as here in North Carolina we get hot! Last year we had some real feel days of 100 degrees. So, until I feel free enough to go out on the deck in my skivvies, it will be linen for me!
Linen was used to wrap their loved ones once passed, in Egyptian culture, and is still worn today, for both its cooling qualities and the fact that it gets softer over time. Linen really is a part of our fashion history. It has been a staple for centuries, based upon its versatility and breathability.
One of My Linen Picks for This Year
Over the past year or so, I tend to check out a few stores more than others. You know, you know your size, how garments fit etc. So my go to shop is Mango. I spotted this dress in a sea of linen pieces, and the peachy tones and soft floral called out to me. I haven’t been purchasing florals as of late, and have been adding stripes and solids, but this was an exception.
Lengthwise, it is a midi dress and I love the fit and flare style as well. I picture it on a hot summer day, on vacation, or just out and about Charlotte. Linen is light, and it wicks away sweat in the heat. I would pair these with a number of sandals I have- cognac ones from Bruno Magli, these brownish tan croc sandals from Mango, or these Vaneli nude sandals I have on. I love the gold detail on the shoe as well, blending them into the peachy – brown tones.
I styled this look with brown tones in mind, gold hoop classic earrings (Monica Vinader) , a brown leather clutch from JJ Winters, and my Vanelli nude sandals. You could easily wear this look to an outdoor wedding this summer. Perhaps just a wrap for your shoulders would work nicely.
