I chose this vibrant poppy print dress because of the look and bright print, but also because it has Ukrainian symbolism.

The Poppy Print Dress by Lysse New York
Have a look at the Lookbook for this season.
I do love the elegance of neutrals, but there is something about these colors and a bold print that catches my eye. I love the almost painted look to this dress, and the cut is also very flattering. An A-line shape, and satin feel make it very easy to wear. You could also add a red or lilac thin wrap to cover the shoulders if in a restaurant.
Lysse’s description:
“Made from Stretch Satin Jersey, the Raquel Side Drape printed Dress is fully lined for structure with light mesh and features a pretty side drape, self-binding at the neck and armholes, and center-back seam. Light and stretchy, the Raquel Side Drape printed Dress is fitted at the top before flowing into an A-line skirt.”
I also have this blouse that I would pair with red trousers, jeans or white jeans.
I love the fit chose to wear it with neutral accessories to let the print stand out, or a more casual look with a pair of lilac slides that I bought a few years ago, for more color.
The Ukrainian Symbol
Since I am 50% Ukrainian, I thought it was the perfect choice for me. My Grandma was originally from Kiev, before she moved to America. My Pap was heavily involved in the Ukrainian church, and my mom followed the traditions through the years, and passed it down to us kids. I still follow some of the traditions today, as I find that important.
So, the poppy dress was the right choice, and it feels so nice and silky on!
From the Kiev Post,
“The red poppy is a traditional Ukrainian symbol of the shed blood of Cossacks,” Volodymyr Vyatrovych, head of the Ukrainian Institute of National Memory, said at an event to promote the remembrance poppy in Kyiv on April 7. “It is (also) a European symbol that commemorates victims of the World Wars.”
The poppy was first introduced as a symbol in May 2014, as a symbol for Victory Day. It represents all soldiers who fought and died in all wars.
