Who said meditation had to start with you being cross-legged and uttering the words OM….
I am going to share with you 3 different ways I “meditate” without conjuring this stereotypical image, and one that will benefit your anxiety.
Anxiety is a real thing. I do take medication for it, and it often strikes me first thing in the morning. A feeling of unrest, uneasiness, and stress. My husband blames the Discovery ID True Crimes programs I watch in the early morning. Oh, if it was only as easy as shutting off the TV!
Well, I am going to tell you some of the ways that I deal with or manage my anxiety, and yes, the TV is not on.
One- Diaphramatic Breathing
Number one, I have a massage table, but a bed would work just as well. Go to You Tube and find a “Spa music” or a “20 minute timer with relaxing music”. This is what I do. I lay on the table, mostly, flat with a pillow just supporting my head. I begin the music, and then its time for diaphramatic breathing. This helps and I keep my eyes closed while I am doing this. Start with breathing in from your diaphram, and when you feel the turn of your breath breath out. I will do this until I feel fully relaxed, mostly utilizing the 20 minutes. I also will use “Dr Bri’s 10 minute breath meditation for pelvic floor and healing. It is not only used for your pelvic floor, but can give you a sense of total relaxation.

Here they are, wanting to lay on my massage table, while I play spa music and work on my breathing. LOL.

Getting into Nature
Another time I find solace and relief from my anxiety, is through being out in nature. Whether I am hiking in the woods, or certainly out on my paddleboard on the lake, there is just a sense of peace with nature. The birds, the herons, the turtles and sometimes the fish, join near you as well. I act of being out on the water is healing .If you are not a water person, find another activity or sport that can connect you with nature.

Three-
Volunteering- Helping with Animals
I am usually quite excited to sign up to volunteer at the shelter. Where the other methods of meditation revolve around oneself, this means is a way to escape and focus solely on the animals, and the happiness you are providing. My anxiety is actually partially relieved as I drive 45 min to the shelter. I play some rock music and just sing, driving and it is a peaceful relaxing moment. Sharing my love for the animals and concentrating on their welfare is a type of meditation. I take them out to the yard, hug and kiss them ( if I know them :-)) and then let them run. I find I am not anxious and there is such a good feeling after I have worked my shift.

One last sure-fire way for me to help dissipate my anxiety is by cuddling with these cute faces!

I hope I was able to provide you with some examples of how to meditate without feeling like you had to OM your way through your day!
Id love to hear what ways you have found meditative?
